The drawbridge has a dual nature: When closed, it's a sleek line in the scenery blending into the surrounding. When open, it's a rather dramatic object. For pedestrians, seeing the drawbridge open is a performance of its own.

Guidance lights and systems are incorporated into the lifting part and into the stationary archway, which also has a double function as the entrance marker to the new Penttilänranta area.
